A Cup for Good
One of the things that sets Higher Grounds apart from other coffee companies is our heart for serving others. Behind the scenes, there has been a lot of discussion over whether to share how we use our coffee to support missions both locally and globally. Our partnership with Mission: OKC, the non-profit run by our founders, Ken & Linda Murphy, has changed lives all over the world, and because of your support, we are able to continue to change the future for families throughout Haiti, Peru, Nepal, and even right here in Oklahoma City.
When you purchase a bag of our locally roasted coffee or hire us to provide coffee service for your office or church, you become part of our story. Your cup of coffee allows us to continue doing a whole bunch of good work! We don’t say this to brag, because at the end of the day it is God’s work, not ours. But we want you to know about some of the things that you are helping us to accomplish in the world!
We believe in making a generational impact by teaching skills instead of giving monthly handouts. Our partnerships with other non-profits has allowed us to purchase Ox and help teach people how to use them to work the land and rotate crops, so a community in Haiti that didn’t have enough food previously, is now able to work their own land and grow their own food! We have helped another community in Haiti build their own cinder block homes, by partnering with a group who taught them how to form the blocks and how to lay them. The families in this community used to live in homes where water would run right through their house, carrying diseases and making the families sick. Now, they have a floor and a sturdier house, as well as marketable skills.
We have partnered with a group who runs a coffee shop in Nepal, which provides an income for ongoing ministry, and teaches basic business skills through the Joshua Training Course. We have helped purchase tractors to work fields and taught people who don’t have any protein in their diet how to grow their own peanuts and make their own peanut butter! Most recently, we were able to help purchase land and build a medical clinic next to an orphanage in Mirebalais, Haiti.
Locally, we have helped a single mom with the cost of testing for her son that was not covered by insurance. We have helped a disabled Veteran continue to live in his house by making it wheelchair accessible. We have helped families who are struggling with medical debt to be able to make ends meet.
At the end of completing each of these projects, I have personally seen the spark lit in Ken to find the next mission. We are currently working on drilling water wells for a community who doesn’t have access to clean water. Who knows where God will lead us next! We appreciate your help in changing the world, one cup of coffee at a time.
